Greensky Bluegrass, a Michigan based band, has recently announced a release date for their new album Shouted, Written Down & Quoted. The release will come the public on September 23, 2016, two years after their album If Sorrows Swim.
As the band gets working on the album, Paul Hoffman, the mandolinist, had told Billboard that he was moved to bring up an old song he’d written some time ago. With the arrangements made, the song “Past My Primes” became the single from the album. This song was said to be “not serious” and “not that personal,” but rather “in jest” and “sorta stream of conscious.”, as Hoffman explained it. He also added “Sometimes I can evoke more emotion with the lyrics when it’s more of an exercise than personal catharsis.” With the new approaches taken with the album and the single, Hoffman had commented “the enthusiasm for the whole project began spilling into the unknown musical creature we were making. Frankly, I think we’re all pretty stoked with the little rock and roll monster that was born from a song out of the shadows.”
The album will contain eleven songs that are full of contradictions, including light and dark tunes, improvisations and planned recordings etc., as shown with the production of Past my Primes. The album will be released through the record label Big Blue Zoo Records.
The album’s artwork with the tracklist is shown below. It has been stated that they will play these new songs during the upcoming LouFest and other tours and shows, such as VT’s Higher Ground, that are planned for the near future. The pre-sale for the album will be available on iTunes on August 26, 2016.
