The duo of Katy Goodman and Greta Morgan just recently announced the release date for their cover album Take It, It’s Yours for August 26. As we come fast approaching to the 26th, the duo has released a cover of their cover of the Misfits “Where Eagles Dare”.
The Misfits song reportedly inspired the two to create the cover album that is soon to release. The duo of the former La Sera bassist and Springtime Carnivore member spoke about the idea of covering the bass-heavy Misfits song in their own style in the press release, “We were goofing around singing it in my backyard and there was something powerful and interesting about hearing our voices harmonize such traditionally aggressive song,” said Morgan. Attacking such an “aggressive” song comes as no surprise for listeners of Goodman and Morgan, because they have never been afraid to tackle songs that are so-called to0 “masculine”. The duo seems to look past the initial reception of songs, and find a deeper meaning behind the lyrics. Goodman spoke about looking past the surface of songs on the album,”On the surface a song like ‘Pay to Cum’ seems really masculine, but to me, the lyrics are really more about freedom,”. And for the Misfits, Morgan hears the influence on the bands music from girl groups,”The Misfits are one of the punk bands I think of as being most influenced by girl groups of the 50’s and 60’s (the other being The Ramones), so somehow our voices really suited these melodies and the simple chord progression.” says Morgan.
The Misfits cover”Where Eagles Dare” will be featured on the upcoming Take It, It’s Yours which is available August 26th via Polyvinyl Records. Listen below.
