Florence + the Machine just wrapped up a spring tour just last month which included stops at Sasquatch! Music Festival, Shaky Knees, and BottleRock Napa Valley. And now Florence + the Machine have released three epic new songs recorded for the video game Final Fantasy XV. Singer Florence Welch teamed with producer Emile Haynie, who has worked with Kanye West, Lana Del Rey, and Bruno Mars.
Final Fantasy XV will include two original singles, “Too Much Is Never Enough” and “I Will Be” and an enchanting cover of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me”.
“I’ve always seen Final Fantasy as a beautiful and creative game so I don’t think I could have worked with another video game,” Welch said in RollingStone. “It wouldn’t have made sense. In some ways the landscape of Final Fantasy and my own internal landscape seemed to fit quite well. It’s mythical and beautiful and epic.”
Final Fantasy XV is out September 30th. This is the latest from Florence + the Machine, who released their third album, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, last year.
“Too Much Is Never Enough” is full of beautifully orchestrated sounding strings and drums, showcasing her signature heavenly howling voice, while “I Will Be” is almost completely instrumental but the music keeps building up and lands perfectly in tune with Welch’s voice. It’s like the sounds of an enchanting dream. And her version of “Stand By Me” is pure magic, she reinvents the songs and puts her soulful, whimsical twist on it.
