Frightened Rabbit’s frontman Scott Hutchinson released a statement apologizing for his Twitter meltdown, and confirms the band will continue despite canceling their next two shows.

To many fans of Frightened Rabbit’s Scott Hutchinson the Twitter meltdown the frontman had the other day isn’t a huge surprise as he has always been vocal through his music about his struggles with depression. In fact, the bands name Frightened Rabbit comes from the nickname Scott Hutchinson’s Mom gave him, because of his extreme anxiety as child. Scott Hutchinson’s anxiety currently caught the attention of fans of Frightened Rabbit when he tweeted out a slew of concerning tweets about the band including, “Goodbye to Frightened Rabbit. All it has ever been is me boring people with lies and making creative currency out of other people’s hurt”, and “I urge you to forget about the band, it’s a complete farce”. These statements frightened fans who were worried not only of the bands future, but of Scott Hutchinson’s well being. Here is a screen grab of Hutchinson’s twitter meltdown (since deleted) via Stereogum below:

Scott Hutchinson has apologized for his recent Twitter meltdown in a written released statement. Hutchinson’s assures fans that the band will continue on, “In spite of this, it’s not the end of our band and (in the sobering light of day) I don’t truly believe the things I said”, he writes. Hutchinson also blames a major factor in the meltdown was due to too much alcohol consumption and an ongoing depression, “I have a greater appreciation of the pitfalls of mixing alcohol, depression and social media”, he adds. On a positive note, it looks as if this meltdown has helped Hutchinson seek recovery, which gives reason to why the band has cancelled two upcoming shows at the Haldern Pop and Rock Am See festivals. Hutchinson explains the cancelling, “For now, the priority is recovery, so regretfully we have decided to cancel our appearances at Haldern and Rock Am See. Sometimes there are more important things than playing shows and we wouldn’t be pulling out if we didn’t think it was necessary”. Read the full statement here below:

I will keep this short and to the point, there’s no real need to go into great detail. I had a bit of a meltdown on Saturday, for various reasons. Some of you may have witnessed it, some of you may not have and some of you may not really care, but I said some regretful things on Twitter. I’d like to attempt to set that straight. Sometimes when life goes awry the reaction is to destroy and say “fuck it all” and unfortunately that’s what I did. In spite of this, it’s not the end of our band and (in the sobering light of day) I don’t truly believe the things I said. On the plus side I have a greater appreciation of the pitfalls of mixing alcohol, depression and social media. In case you were in any doubt, it’s a terrible idea. For now, the priority is recovery, so regretfully we have decided to cancel our appearances at Haldern and Rock Am See. Sometimes there are more important things than playing shows and we wouldn’t be pulling out if we didn’t think it was necessary. Lastly, I’m sorry if I caused any alarm. If you have ever been through a low-point in life I’m certain you’ll understand. If you haven’t ever been through the muck, you are a lucky bastard.
