If you didn’t get the chance to see Dead & Company at their shows at Alpine Valley Music Theatre, the next best thing is coming to Chicago: Dark Star Orchestra. Continuously called one of the best Dead cover bands, they will not disappoint you if you want to experience the Dead’s music live. They even have the blessing of the original members, who are known to show up and sometimes play with the band.
The extremely unique concept behind Dark Star Orchestra is that they play exact setlists from specific Grateful Dead shows, complete with stage decoration and attire that matches the era in which the original show was performed. After roughly 2200 shows already performed, it’s safe to say that DSO knows the Dead’s music like the back of their hands.
While they try to recreate the Dead’s sounds and improvisations, DSO also creates their own extraordinary takes on each song, making sure to put their on musical style on display as well.
