Morrissey @ King’s Theater

Guess who’s coming back to New York City this Fall? Morrissey, the English alternative/indie rock singer, has announced that he will be performing at King’s Theater this September 24th in Brooklyn.

Morrissey announced his upcoming performance in NYC late last week, and just like most ‘Morrissey News,’ it comes with some controversy and confusion. Earlier this year, the singer announced that he would be headlining on day two of Riot Fest in Chicago this September. But that wasn’t all. He also made a statement in September last year claiming that he would no longer be playing shows in the UK, a statement no one actually believed, of course. He made startling announcement came after being dropped from his old record label, Harvest Records, a record label he recently claimed “almost killed him” and that “without new releases, there is no point in any additional touring. ” But as it turns out one year later, he is scheduled to perform in Manchester later this month in addition to his upcoming US tour. His last record with Harvest, World Peace Is None Of Your Business, came out in 2014 and is also his latest.

Known for his outspoken political and social beliefs, Morrissey is known for being much more than just a British rock star; he’s a cultural icon. Known for his work with The Smiths in the 1980’s, the legendary songwriter has done an outstanding job of maintaining his reputation as an outspoken individual, master lyricist, and political/social activist. He has managed to top the UK music charts on more than just a handful of occasions, and The Smiths are on right track to make their way into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Their 1985 hit, How Soon Is Now, is still regarded as the unofficial anthem of the 1980’s. If you haven’t heard it before, do yourself a favor and check it out.
