Psychic Twin (né Erin Fein), a dance pop artist, has just announced the release of her debut LP Strange Diary, set to hit stores on September 9th via Polyvinyl.
Although it may be her first record under the name Psychic Twin, Strange Diary is not Fein’s first outing as a musician. If anything, Fein may be considered by some quite the veteran. After suffering a back injury pursuing a figure skating career, she joined the band Absinthe Blind including (presumably) relatives Seth and Adam Fein.
Soon after the band broke up in 2003, Erin Fein more notably joined mid 2000s dream pop / indie rock outfit Orphans, which later donned the more well-known moniker Headlights. Former Absinthe Blind members, Seth Fein, Brett Sanderson and Tristan Wraight all became part of the band, along with newcomers Nick Sanborn (of Decibully and Sylvan Esso) and John Owens (of fellow Champaign-Urbana scene band Shipwreck).
Following Headlights’ break up in 2012, a divorce, and a move to Brooklyn, NY, Erin Fein founded her own band Psychic Twin, along with drummer Rosana Caban. After such a relatively prosperous musical career, Fein is again ready to spread her musical wings in the upcoming record. And although Psychic Twin is a new name, Fein seems to explore her past through ethereal, languid pop.
“These songs are 100% a diary of my life over the last four years,” says Fein in the description of the upcoming record on Bandcamp. “The music balances languid, dark melodies and atmosphere with propulsive rhythms and soaring vocal lines. It’s beautiful and catchy. It’s like the sound of someone reaching the end of that dream, finding what they’ve been searching for through all the haze.”
