Indie pop band Warpaint has just dropped a release date for their third consecutive album Heads Up. The announcement comes shortly after their video teaser posted later last week via the band’s Twitter.

On Sept. 13 fans can expect a slightly different sound than their previous albums Warpaint (2014) and The Fool (2010).

“The doors were a little more open in terms of what was accepted and what wasn’t, because we were sharing ideas so rapidly between us,” said band member Stella Mozgawa in a press release.
“I feel really proud of what we made – almost surprised,” added Jenny Lee Lindberg. “…it’s an evolution of our band. It sounds like a mature version of Warpaint”.

The difference can be heard in their first single from the album, titled, “New Song” which has a seemingly more upbeat melody and features influences from R&B and electronic music. The first few seconds of the song hooks you in with a catchy rhythm that will immediately make you want to lose yourself in a hazy daydream while she describes the feeling of new love. They open with a series of metaphors that automatically hints at a more happy and optimistic song.

“You come along, you come along, and wash away the rain
You are the sun, you are the sun, that leads me back,”

later adding:
“I have never felt this strong
Dancing to you all night long”.

After separating to pursue solo careers and reuniting earlier this year, the band got together and recorded the new album with a fresh start. Warpaint decided to record in pairs or individually rather than with the whole group at once and Lindberg credits the quality of their upcoming music to the new method.

“Everybody was allowed to have their space, time and creative freedom with songs and figure out, I wonder what the best notes would be? I wonder what the best part would be to play?. Everybody got to sit and go, ‘What do I want to do on this? What’s my part? What’s my role? How can I make it the best?”

Following the September release of Warpaint’s album, you can catch a performance in Britain when the band goes on tour in October. Catch the tour dates and album track list below.
