Rhymesayers founders Atmosphere have released a new single, “No Biggie”, which will feature on their upcoming album Fishing Blues. The underground hip-hop duo released their previous single, “Ringo”, to mark the announcement of the upcoming album’s release date.

“No Biggie” features a characteristically energized Slug spitting over a solid, if not spectacular, Ant production. Slug continues his recent love affair with character sketches, describing in acute detail the changes in a woman he observes over an extended period of time.

“Years ago you were a different you/Attitude of a hot bowl of cat food/Opened it up like yeah, motherfucker so what/We all grow up, what happened to you, what’s the holdup /Throw your nose up bourgeois character/Trying to claim careless wearing an air freshener,” Slug rhymes.

Ant backs Slug’s bars with somewhat atypical production, layering organ, blues guitar, and turntable effects over heavy, dry drums. The production adequately accents Slug’s bars, but does little to distinguish itself in Ant’s greater canon of work.

Fishing Blues will be Atmosphere’s ninth studio LP and first formal release since 2014’s Southsiders. The new album will be released on August 12 and will feature collaborations with fellow Rhymesayers Aesop Rock, DOOM, and The Grouch, as well as with fellow pioneer Kool Keith.

Atmosphere kicked off a world tour in support of Fishing Blues on July 2 in Chicago. They have consistently toured since 2014, and notably headlined their own festival, Soundset 2016, in May.
