Like many of their supergroup peers, Head Wound City have been on-and-off over the years. This is normal for supergroups; many tour together but face creative and logistical barriers in creating a body of work that surpasses both the member’s previous bands and the sum of the band members’ parts. However, after uniting in 2014 for a small U.S. tour, the band finally made the commitment to create a follow-up album to their 2005 self-titled EP. The final product out of the recording studio was 2016’s A New Wave of Violence.
The record led to a couple of track releases such as “Teeth” and “Born To Burn”. The group has now completed and released the video for the later single, below.
The concept is simple: A tape is entered into an old JVC mini-TV/VCR and player. It displays a black and white video of Head Wound City performing at a gig. Throughout the video, the mystery person who played the cassette begins to drop matches and lighter fluid on the television, adding fuel to the fire. As Jordan Billie screams “Burn! Burn! Burn! Burn!” we see the set ignite and begin to melt.
Head Wound City features Blood Brothers’ Jordan Blilie and Cody Votolato, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner, and Justin Pearson and Gabe Serbian of The Locust. They are finishing a summer tour in California and New York this month in support of their latest album A New Wave of Violence
