It’s been almost a full year since Canadian indie rock outfit Destroyer released their latest album Poison Season. Frontman Dan Bejar brought his songwriting chops to the album and continued to surprise fans by steering his band’s creative direction to unexpected places, as if each record the band decided to reset their classifications and begin building their legacy from scratch.
Bejar has always challenged listeners as Poison Season’s songs leave much to the interpretation of fan. Listening to the album, one can continue to uncover deeper meanings behind the track upon a second, third, and fourth listen. This is the beauty of Destroyer music, the challenge Bejar poses to listeners. No one, however, has been challenged by Bejar more than Bejar. Each of the frontman’s albums has been crafted to bring a distinct contribution with distinct influences to his catalogue. The singer-songwriter has gone as far as releasing an album entirely in Spanish (a language not native to the singer) to the delight of many fans.
Destroyer stuck with the mother tongue for his latest, but created a unique sound by combining yacht rock with New York themes, lyrics, and sonics. Now, Bejar will bring this work on the road. The band has released fall tour dates in the U.S., planning 18 stops. As he makes his way across the country, Bejar will give fans an exclusive first listen to 10 “guitar-based” new tracks that have yet to be released. It is not known whether the songs will be featured on or simply are the group next album.
