Metal band The Devil Wears Prada set the release of their sixth album Transit Blues for Oct. 7. Unlike the band’s last album Space which was dubbed “thematic” by vocalist Mike Hranica, Transit Blues will embody a much different sound as it will explore themes surrounding transition, separation, and mourning.

In a statement by Hranica, he said, “It’s like zooming out on a commute. It’s the notion of getting from one place to another. Most people go from their homes to work while we go from date to date on tour. Either way, it’s the inevitable process of growth and change. There are moments of anger, but the pervading theme is separation. Drawing the full circle, it is separation that is inherent in moving from one place to another.”

Last Winter, in an effort to create strong collaborative material the members of The Devil Wears Prada retreated to Watertown, WC. and and Sawyer, MI. to write the album. For the first time in their career they decided to confine themselves in a shared space and worked around the clock until it was finished.

After the success of the last album, the band reunited with the producer of Space to record Transit Blues this passed Spring.

“It’s strange,” Hranica said. “I will write EPs based on subjects that aren’t super close to my heart like ‘Zombie’ or ‘Space’ because it opens the door for me to make my own stories based off the topics. When we did ‘Transit Blues’, it was only natural to incorporate fiction. ‘Daughter’ is the most forthright example.”

They have already released their first single off the album titled “Daughter” and the song has managed to get 276,000 hits on YouTube so far in just one week.

It is obvious The Devil Wears Prada kills it in the studio, but the band is also no stranger to music festivals. Recently on July 15, the band performed at the Chicago Open Air Festival in an unforgettable set for their fans and the Open Air! Festival last December.
