The LA-based, dark-wave synth-pop trio just dropped a new video. The single “Secret Scream” is off their debut album Fever Daydream which also includes songs “Ice To Never” and “Distanced“.
The sound of “Secret Scream” evokes electronic music of the past and present. You will hear the likes of Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails. There is also a heavy R&B fused element as well that gives a real 80s feel. It’s a refreshing take on dance music today.
“There’s a really visual soundtrack element,” lead singer Greg Puciato said. “We talked a lot about the feel of ’80s sci-fi, as a metaphor, the sort of ‘used future’ thing where it sounds alien but also familiar and gives you nostalgia for a time you don’t quite remember ever exactly existing.”
Filmed in the Skid Row/Fashion District area of Downtown Los Angeles, home to the band’s recording of Fever Daydream, is self-directed. The release of “Secret Scream” serves as the companion piece to previous effort “Maybe We Should”.
“The video isn’t meant to have a linear narrative, but to seem like more of an abstract memory,” Greg Puciato explains. “A smear filled with recollections of lust and terror, elation and dread. The middle of the song is a representation of that middle of the night intoxication with and fear of the void, the temptation of that and the feeling of being on the brink of the unknown.”
The black and white video is as sinister and seductive as the track itself. “Secret Scream” is aesthetically pleasing taking us on a dark and raw sexual trip. It’s features gritty images that look like they were taken straight from a film noir which pairs perfect with the infectious beat that carries us throughout the video. Puciato embodies the words he is singing drawing us in and making us curious for more.
