If you’re one of those metalheads who think black metal only comes out of Norway, you better head over to The Studio At Webster Hall on September 17th to catch American black metal band, Ghost Bath.
Hailing all the way from North Dakota, the band will hit the road this September in support of their sophomore release, Moonlover, that came out in 2015. The record has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and is being compared Deafhaven’s successful 2013 record, Sunbather. Ghost Bath’s newest album captures the sound of the latest metal genre to hit the scene, “blackgaze”, which was initially championed by Deafhaven in their debut record. But now, Ghost Bath have turned into the newest kid on the block, and they’re definitely a band to watch out for in the coming years. Check out their song, Happyhouse; that appeared on their latest record.
The band has a rather interesting background, and their history can attest to that. When the band formed in 2012, they were mistaken as a Chinese black metal band, and when Ghost Bath released their debut record, Funeral, in 2014, the band never bothered to correct the media’s mistake. It was later discovered that the group had not been from China as initially implied, but instead the record was released on a Chinese record label. Ghost Bath neglected to correct anyone. It was a rather interesting tactic, and if we’re being brutally honest here, how often do you go out of their way to listen to an American black metal band, right? Now that the jig is up, their latest album proves that these guys are the real deal. Check out the song, Torment; that appeared on Funeral.
