Sims, a core member of Minnesota indie hip-hop collective Doomtree, has released new single through Flood Magazine, entitled “Triple 6’s”. This is his first solo release since 2013 single “This is the Place”, and the first Doomtree production since their 2015 collective LP All Hands.
“Triple 6’s” marks a major return to form for the relatively quiet Doomtree rapper. Although Sims dropped the Field Notes EP in 2014 and contributed to Doomtree’s last collective release, he hasn’t released solo LP since 2011’s Bad Time Zoo.
On “Triple 6’s”, he spits fierce bars over harsh synths and rapid drum machine beats. The track’s production is quite simple, highlighting Sims’ classic hip-hop delivery. He effortlessly calls out derivative rappers and poseurs, praising his Doomtree collective in the process.
To date, Sims has released two solo studio LP’s and four EP’s. He’s featured prominently on each Doomtree release, and has contributed guest bars on numerous Doomtree member productions. Collectively, Doomtree has issued three LP’s, and each member has released at least one solo LP through the Doomtree label.
