Orange County dark R&B singer BANKS has announced the follow up album to 2014’s Goddess. In addition, she has released the music video for “Fuck With Myself”, the first single off the project. The video can be viewed below:
The sultry and defiant video features BANKS asserting her independence through the lyric “So I fuck with myself more than anyone else.” The dimly lit video alternates between three different scenes: a nude BANKS singing to herself in a cracked mirror, BANKS singing surrounded by dancers unnaturally contorting themselves, and BANKS seducing a wax figure of a head (which she later sets on fire). BANKS is no stranger to visually intense music videos, and this one is no exception.
“This song is about being your own best friend, your own mother, and your own lover,” explained BANKS.
BANKS has been the artist to watch for a few years now. After embarking on an international tour with The Weeknd, she gained notoriety for her independence and dark spin on the R&B genre. Her voice has a frailty to it, yet BANKS oozes confidence when she sings. Because of this, her music sounds triumphant and celebratory instead of whiny or dreary.
