Joe Perry Recovering After Onstage Cardiac Arrest At Hollywood Vampires Gig

Joe Perry fans were in for a scare this weekend when the legendary guitarist collapsed in the middle of a live performance in Coney Island, NY.

The Aerosmith strummer was playing with his latest band, Hollywood Vampire – a supergroup consisting of Perry, Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper – when he began to slow down. Paste Magazine reports that after some time, he continued to play while sitting on a drum kit, and eventually walked off the stage where he collapsed. NYPD and FDNY members transported the guitarist to Coney Island hospital. Cooper and Depp continued to play and closed the show without him.

Fear not, Perry fans; the musician is fine. Perry was reported to be in stable condition and recovering in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.

Members of Aerosmith all reacted to Perry’s hospitalization with messages of support for their bandmate.

Joe Perry was the lead guitarist, occasional vocalist, and contributing songwriter for Aerosmith from 1970-1979 and 1984-present. He has been named by many – including Rolling Stone – as one of the greatest guitarists of all time and has been included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame. USA Today reports that publicist Sujata Murthy said in statement this week that Perry is expected to return to the road soon to complete Hollywood Vampire’s international summer tour.
