After over two dozen shows in Europe, Serj Tankian’s Elect the Dead Symphony-Orca show is coming to North America for the first time ever. The show, which will take place November 10th, will be hosted at CSUN’s Valley Performing Arts Center. Serj, who is an alumni of CSUN, will perform the show with the CSUN Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Joe Roscigno.
Serj promises the show will be an incredibly unique experience that will combine the raw energy of a rock show with the dynamic range and texture of a full orchestral performance.
As one of the most celebrated metal vocalists of all time, Serj Takanian has enjoyed quite the storied and versatile musical history. As the lead vocalist of hard rock/alt-metal band System of a Down, Serj has enjoyed widespread critical and commercial success. Serj has one of the highest ranges in all of popular music, with a vocal range of 4.2 octaves. After beginning to experiment with orchestral composition in Elect the Dead, Serj released his second solo album Imperfect Harmonies, which blended together elements of classical music and traditional rock. It wasn’t until Orca Symphony No. 1 that Serj utilized a complete symphony. Recently, Serj has composed “Aurora’s Dream”, a song that was commissioned by Armenia’s “Aurora Prize” ceremony. The ceremony celebrates humanitarian efforts, and Serj has been noted worldwide for his efforts to raise awareness for human rights, social justice, and the Armenian Genocide.
