Tycho is back with his first release of original music since 2014.
Titled “Division,” the track remains true to the ambient artist, while exploring some new territory. The song combines jazz-influenced percussion with light synthesizers and sunny guitar washing over the listener to create a track any Tycho fan will approve of. Check out the new release below.
Tycho’s recent activity has been limited; the collective remixed their Awake album earlier this year shared a mix of Death Cab For Cutie’s “Ghost Of Beverly Drive.” back in September.
Tycho is a project led by Scott Hansen, who composes, produces and songwrites. His ambient music combines downbeat synthesizers, soothing melodies, and occasional human elements to create a relaxing atmosphere for the listener. The songs tend to evoke senses of nostalgia, peace, and childhood throughout.
Hansen has released 7 albums as Tycho. He broke through with 2011’s Dive, which led critic to compare the artists with chillwaves and electronic artists such as Washed Out Toro Y Moi. He continued to grow with the release of 2014’s Awake.
While promoting these albums, Hansen opened the opened his solo project to a band for touring and other live performances. By bringing in bands members the frontman tries to create a balance – the new members bring a natural feel to the performances by playing physical instruments, while light samples ensure the precision needed to remain consistent with the album and stay true to electronic music.
