Indie Folk rock favorites, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, have just released a new video for their song “Wake Up the Sun.”
The video was directed by Noaz Deshe, an award winning cinematographer. It follows around various people, and focuses on two kids as they dance their way around the city.
It was shot near Chisanau, the capital of the country of Moldova. As director Deshe says in an interview for Nowness, filming in Moldova was a very unique and beautiful experience, “you find time stands still [in Moldova]-communism and religion are still the backdrop of an identity not yet conquered by the east or the west. It seems like any minute chain stores will spring up, but for now it is undefined by the powers that be. I was struck by the beauty of an identity not yet overtaken by what has become all-too familiar-the song struck that chord with me.”
The song comes from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero’s latest album PersonA. The album was the band’s first release since their 2013 self titled album, and their fourth studio album to date.
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros were formed in 2007 in Los Angeles, California. The band is made up of ten members, often more, that play a slew of instruments, but is led by singer Alex Ebert. The band released their first album in 2009, Up From Below, and quickly gained popularity for their unique and lovable sound.
