Tom Jenkinson, known better under his stage name Squarepusher, has released a new song entitled “MIDI sans Frontières.”
As The Fader describes, the song is in opposition to Britain’s decision to leave the European Union, known informally as “Brexit.” In fact, the name reveals as much, translating from french to “MIDI without borders” referring to the controller keyboard he uses in his music and referring to one of the reasons why many decided in favor of Britain leaving the EU.
The song is completely instrumental, and carries its own weight. On his page, Jenkinson encourages other musicians to take the song and do covers or reinterpret them in support of his message.
Squarepusher is giving away “MIDI sans Frontières” as a free digital download that can be found here. Included on the page is as well a paragraph written by Jenkinson himself, detailing the message behind his song and his wish for others to reinterpret it to their liking.
Take a listen to the new song below.
