Killer Mike has hinted at a release date for a Run the Jewels 3 album. As reported by Paste, El-P’s March announcement that the album is halfway completed was recently followed by Mike’s announcement that he hopes to have the album completed within the next weeks for a July release: “I think we will be done soon… we want it out this year”.

The artist took a laid-back approach to the creative process: “I’m just smoking week, eating shrooms, watching Big Trouble in Little China everyday”. However, he promised an ambitious record that will be “harder, darker, meaner, and angrier” than anything released by the group. Fans have been speculating about collaborations to be featured on the latest effort. The supergroup plans to bring in one major feature but have remained coy about identifying the potential contributor; when asked about the contributors genre, Mike only responded that the mystery person is an “artist”. While it looks like fans will be left to speculate for now, they can remain optimistic, considering previous Run the Jewels contributors: Big Boi and Zack De La Rocha.

The latest effort will likely be a shorter release as Mike has discussed his aversion to longer efforts. As reported by HipHopDX, he stated, “I’m for shorter albums. I like to stay in the 10 to 12 realm. They want to get to it. Look for our albums to be hard, fast, strong, streamlined, get to it.”

When not working on their forthcoming EP, Run the Jewels has been featured on Adult Swim’s 2016 Singles program setlist, released video for their single “Crown”, while Killer Mike hit the campaign trail with Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders. Despite their busy schedules, Mike has promised another  Run the Jewels tour sometime in the future.
