ESG @ Gramps 9/23

ESG is coming to Gramps in Wynwood on Friday, September 23rd. ESG has been an experimental leader in music since the band was created. Although their name is not one of the biggest names in music, their influence can be felt in a ton of the music that came after them.

ESG is a post-punk and funk band from the Bronx in New York. The band was formed in the 80’s and they have been making influential and experimental music ever since. Their music has a funky vibe to it, but also a stranger and more experimental vibe that has evolved along with the band in the time that they have been making music. Their latest album was released in 2013, and although some members have gone and new ones have joined they have kept their style and have kept making music. Their track “UFO” is one of the most sampled tracks in the history of music, being used by the likes of Biggie and J.Cole among many others. “Moody” is another one of their songs featuring a great baseline and some congos on the side.

The band is set to perform at one of the chillest venues in Wynwood: Gramps. In big letters on the Gramps building itself there are three things written: Air Conditioning, Cold Beer, and Cocktails. It is a laid back venue with chairs and tables outside and a bar and seats inside too. Overall Wynwood and Gramps is the perfect venue for ESG; they have had a legendary influence on music, yet they are just laid-back musicians trying to get everyone to groove with them.

Henry Ehlebracht: I am an NYU student from Miami who loves writing. I am a dual major in Philosophy and Journalism and I'd love to share my thoughts on music with you. My two favorite music genres are definitely hip hop and electronic/dance, but I'm really open to anything that piques my interest. I'm currently in New York for school. Electronic album reviewer for MXDWN. Although I write about music for the website, my media interests stretch into many areas including movies and video games.
