The Stone Roses are continuing to roll out new music with the release of “All For One” follow-up, “Beautiful Thing”.

Clocking in at 7 minutes, the track allows John Squire’s guitar to do much of the talking throughout most of the song. Fans who were disappointed with “All For One” may be more satisfied with this track. The release brings us back to the Stone Roses circa 1990 days, channeling the “Fool’s Gold” sound that allowed the band to make its mark on the world.

“Beautiful Thing” is on track to be highest new single on the Official Charts and is on pace to be the number 3 single and is currently the number 1 most trending song. The track was strategically released just before the band sets out for a U.K. tour that includes 4 shows in Manchester’s Etihad Stadium.

Despite the influx of new music and live shows, no confirmation has been made on the status of the band’s next album. Virgin EMI Managing Director Clive Cawley discussed the band in an interview with Music Week:

There’s no sign of an album as of yet unfortunately, but hopefully this is the start of them doing something good. Maybe, in this day and age [we should] end up just doing occasional singles into an album. I’d love to get more and more songs out of them but I’m not holding my breath.

While the prospect of a third Stone Roses album may seem more likely than ever, perhaps fans shouldn’t hold their breath – the band has not released a studio album since 1994’s Second Coming.

Stone Roses formed in 1983. The band broke through with their self-titled debut album in 1989, featuring “Fools Gold” and “She Bangs the Drums”. They released a string of singles in the early 90’s before disbanding in 1996. The guys reunited in 2011 for a world tour and again last year for a perceived comeback effort. Time will tell if this effort is successful.
