Preoccupations has announced that they will be dropping a new, self titled album on September 16 via Jagjaguwar.

Produced by Graham Walsh, Preoccupations features nine tracks that have one-word, simple song titles. This album is entirely different from their last album Viet Cong. Rather, Preoccupations focuses on the hardships of life, and how one relates to them.

Frontman Matt Flegel says, ““Monotony is a dead end job; Anxiety is changing as a band. Memory is watching someone lose their mind; Fever is comforting someone. It’s all drawing from very specific things.”

The band has made their own statements on the album as whole.

They say, “a singular, bracing collection that proves what’s punishing can also be soothing, everything can change without disrupting your compass. Your best year can be your worst year at the same time.  Whatever sends you flying can also help you land.”

So far, only one song, “Anxiety” has been released off the upcoming album.

This Canadian punk rock band has made many new changes. One of them being the change of their band name. Formerly known as Viet Cong, this band made the smart decision to change their name. Their previous name  referred to the National Liberation Front who supported the communist party during the Vietnam War in the 1960’s. This name offended many due to its possible underlying political ideology thus Preoccupation decided to apologize to those negatively affected by the name.

The band released a statement saying, “We apologize to those who were adversely affected by our former band name. This was never anticipated nor our intent. We are artists and not politicians, we understand that the name reflected pain to some individuals and we are happy to change it and move on and focus on our music.”

Recently, the band has been keeping themselves busy being on tour with Explosions in the Sky.
