French heavy metal group, Gojira, have released another single off their soon to be released album, Magma.
The song begins with dissonant, echoing guitar chords. As the echo narrows itself down to a silence, the symphony of metal, power chords dominates the song. The song develops, and distorted vocals fill the verses with their alluring sound. This song is somewhat different from their last released song “Stranded”. “Stranded” features a more upbeat rhythm, contrasting with this new singles slow, calm drum line.
Magma, Gojira’s new album, is actually set to be released June 17th, which is this Thursday. Besides these two singles, the band has also debuted a music video for their song “Severa” that has brought more attention to this album’s release.
This album is set to be different form Gojira’s last album. Most of Gojira’s songs are pretty long, but the band decided to cut their songs short this album. Joseph Duplantier, the bands guitarist and vocalist, said, “We want a short album. Something less epic than what we usually do. People’s attentions are shorter now. So a lot of the songs are four minutes.”
Besides releasing singles, Gojira has also announced tour dates this fall. The band will be traveling throughout the U.S with their first show being on July 16th in Chicago. The full list of shows, and ticket vendors can be viewed here.
