Minnesota indie hip hop collective Doomtree have shared their latest single “Spill Me Up,” their first track since 2015’s All Hands. The track is complete with raps from Sims, Cecil Otter, and P.O.S, with a beat contributed by Lazerbeak. The entire group has been busy with solo endeavors with year, and will be hard at work making rounds at the festival circuit this summer. However, fans can expect to hear new tracks from the collective throughout the next couple of months.
The track turns a political message into a banger, complete with a range of semi-obscure references that range from Kate Kaelin to Marcel Marceau.
Since their inception, Doomtree has been known to put left-leaning political messages into beats that even conservative music fans will find hard to resist. The group is also known for its Blowouts at local Minneapolis, MN venues, thrown at least once per year since 2005. While identified as hip hop, countless other influences can be identified in their work included punk, blues, jazz, soul, rock. The song’s cerebral themes and thought-provoking lyrics have won the collective a growing band of followers throughout the past decade.
When not working individually, Doomtree has been finding some time to jam together. They performed at Soundset this year. Later this summer, the squad will head out for mini-tour, performing in Los Angeles, CA; Fort Wayne, IN; and a sold out show in Grand Rapids, MI.
