Bat for Lashes has certainly had her hands full lately. Just recently, she released the song “Joe’s Dream” to the public. “Joe’s Dream” is the fourth track released off of Bat for Lashes’ upcoming album The Bride. The Bride is a haunting concept album that tells the story of a bride attends her honeymoon alone after her fiancee dies in a car crash on the way to their wedding. The album grapples with loneliness, love, and loss in melancholic yet optimistic way. The song can be viewed below:
Bat for Lashes’ voice really does have the somber yet hopeful feel that helps her convey the stories she creates. The droning guitars and minimalist percussion add a lonely and hopeless vibe that indirectly tells the story of the bride and her conflicted psyche.
A month ago Bat for Lashes, aka Natasha Khan, released a video for her track “Sunday Love”, which she directed herself. The track, which also features on The Bride, shows Khan standing in an open road wearing a bridal gown as the titular bride mourning over the loss of her fiancee in a car crash. The video itself can be viewed here. Khan has been busy filming more videos to accompany her album. Interestingly, Khan chose churches as her venue of choice while touring earlier this May. At Khan’s request, fans were instructed to wear formal wedding attire in order to immerse themselves into the story of the album. Churches in London, Brighton, and Manchester were included in this tour, and later this month Khan is scheduled to play in Glastonbury.
The Bride seems to be a musical project that thrives off of its videos to tell its story. With each video release the saga of The Bride becomes a little clearer.
