Prophets of Rage, the latest supergroup featuring Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk; Public Enemy’s Chuck D; and Cypress Hill’s B-Real have shared tour dates for their “Make America Rage Again” tour this summer. The band members have been sporting their own version of Trump’s signature hat with their wordplay stitched in. They have additionally planned an extensive trek complete with over 35 stops this summer and fall.
The upcoming Presidential Election has been more divisive than previous races, leading artists and bands to express their opinions, many of which have been derisive. Prophets of Rage plans to join this club, ready to throw brickbats at Republican Nominee Donald Trump.
The Diffuser reports that before the tour, the band will play a show at an undisclosed location during the Republican National Convention on July 19 in Cleveland, OH. Morello has discussed the politically-charged group, describing it as an “elite task force of revolutionary musicians determined to confront this mountain of election year bullshit.” The group hinted the trip to fans when they sang “No Sleep ‘Til Cleveland” while covering the Beastie Boys “No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn” at the Whiskey.
Morello believes the band will make a splash in Cleveland during the convention and had more to say about the planned disturbance.
That’ll be a perfect place for a band like Prophets of Rage to cause a ruckus. And we will be there on the streets, in the fields, and in the conscience.
If Morello sounds confident, it might be because he has previous experience disrupting political elections. In 2000, Rage Against the Machine held a free show, located near the Democratic National Convention to protest the two-party system.
The band’s trek will continue into October and wind down in Chula Vista after 35 stops in the U.S. If seeing the supergroup wasn’t enough incentive to make it out for a show, a portion of each show’s profits will be donated to homeless shelters in each local city.
Prophets of Rage only made their live debut a week ago when they rocked Los Angeles’ Whiskey a Go Go. They have since made stops at the Hollywood Palladium and Brooklyn’s Warsaw. Both shows sold out. The name was inspired by a Public Enemy song, but the music has been influenced by all member’s previous bands; the supergroup has played material from Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, and Rage Against the Machine. We’ve also heard them cover the Beastie Boy’s “No Sleep To Brooklyn.”
The band is balancing their time spent writing new material with their time on the road. They recently planned a live performance at New York’s Governors Ball, but were unable to perform when the event was rained out.
