LISTEN: Bassnectar Releases Four New Songs Featuring The Glitch Mob, Rye Rye And Zion I

On June 3, EDM festival staple Bassnectar released four new tracks from his upcoming album, Unlimited. This followed the formal announcement of said album’s June 17 release date, a continuation of the recent trend of surprise album announcements throughout the music industry.

The four new tracks, which will ultimately comprise Unlimited’s first four songs, boast a diverse set of sounds and collaborators. “Reaching Out” enters with twinkling keyboards and buzzing synths, which Bassnectar eventually drowns out with trap-influenced baselines and pitch-shifted vocal samples. On the LUCZID collaboration “Music is the Drug”, Bassnectar layers hip-hop rhythms over soft keyboards and pulsating electronic beats. The third track, “TKO”, features a generic hook from Rye Rye and characteristically energized verse from Zion I over relatively traditional trap production. The last track, “Paracosm”, a collaboration with The Glitch Mob, joins ambient noises, festival-ready synths, and computerized vocals.

Bassnectar teased fans throughout the day prior to the release of the LP’s first four songs, releasing 15-second clips of songs that will appear on the album. Upon issue, a press announcement stated the four tracks he released were shared in celebration of the formal album premiere date announcement. These four tracks allude to a highly varied, highly collaborative effort comprising multiple genres and styles.

Unlimited will be Bassnectar’s 12^th studio album and his first since 2015’s Into the Sun. In addition to the collaboration on the already released tracks, Unlimited contains collaborations with Lafa Taylor, G. Jones, Gnar Gnar, LUZCID, Levit∆te, Macntaj, Qa, HAILO and Haley. A press release claims the inspiration for the album comes from Bassnector’s unplugging from the pressures of the internet and social media over the past year.
