WATCH: Prophets Of Rage Perform First Show In Los Angeles

New supergroup Prophets Of Rage played their first show at the legendary Whiskey a Go-Go in Los Angeles. It was a rousing success, as expected given the high-profile names in the group.

The band is comprised of some real heavy hitters; Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk from Rage Against The Machine, Chuck D and DJ Lord from Public Enemy, and B-Real from Cypress Hill. Needless to say, this lineup features some of the best 90’s hip-hop has to offer, with the members of Rage Against The Machine supplying some well applied hard rock muscle.

The setlist features an even mix of songs from all three respective original groups. Songs like “People Of The Sun” and “Bombtrack” from Rage are featured alongside Public Enemy’s “Fight The Power” and Cypress Hill’s “Rock Superstar”. Additionally a new song was played, “The Party’s Over.”

The formation of Prophets Of Rage had been hinted at through clever social media tactics, and the launch of a countdown website from the participating Rage Against The Machine members. It certainly garnered some anticipation for the new supergroup, and now the project is officially underway.

It will certainly be interesting to see what route the band chooses to go from here. Will a tour precede the release of new material to gain more excitement, or will they announce a new LP before hitting the road? Definitely something to keep an eye on as the Summer progresses.

Proceeds from the show last night went to the PATH organization, which strives to end homelessness.
