Listen: VHOL Releases New Song “Dispatch” Featured on Adult Swim Single Series

Each year, those that work at Adult Swim release free song each week to the public. This year, they started with a song called “Dose” which featured a number of DJs. Today, June 1st, the song “Dispatch” was released, which switches the musical direction completely.

“Dispatch,” a song created by the metal supergroup, VHOL, is considered by NPR as the “meanest and bloodiest VHOL track to date.” The band is made up of guitarist, John Cobbett, bassist Sigrid Sheie, drummer Aesop Dekker, and vocalist Mike Scheidt.

Cobbett and Sheie are members of the group Hammers of Misfortune, Dekker is part of Agalloch, and Scheidt fronts YOB. Although these artists are members of other bands, they come together and create music that is memorable and noteworthy.

From the guitar riff to the intense drumming, the band uses this song to directly pay tribute to the punk sound used to support the bands work. “The lyrics are loosely a sci-fi theme on killing machines sent by the powers-that-be to do their dirty work from a distance,” Scheidt writes NPR. “With drones currently being used for that exact purpose, it’s not quite so sci-fi, really.”
