Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are ready for a comeback. Not only is the group set to release their currently-untitled new album on September 9, but it will be accompanied by a performance film.
According to Pitchfork, the Laemmle Theatres official website features a listing for an untitled film in which Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will perform songs off of their new album. The film will be screened September 8, and is particularly special as it will the be the first time the songs will be made available to the public, as the band does not intend to release any singles prior to the album release. The listing also provides a brief description of the upcoming projects, claiming that the album and film complement each other perfectly. “The record has an intimacy and starkness that the film’s photographic style will reflect,” states the listing. “It will be shot in black and white, color and 3-D. The idea is to create an experience that is immersive but also elegant, that feels both immediate and archival.”
This new album will be the first for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds since 2013, when they released Push The Sky Away along with a live collection called Live From KCRW. However, the band members have stayed busy. Nick Cave wrote book chronicling his life on tour, the group reissued their back catalog on vinyl and single called “Give Us a Kiss” was released for the 2014 film 20,000 Days On Earth. Unfortunately, it has also been a rather tough year for the group. Last year, Nick Cave’s 15-year-old son tragically passed away after falling from a cliff. Multiple musicians expressed their sympathy on social media while Mark Kozelek even released a tribute song in his honor.
Regardless of these events, it seems Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are ready for a new start. Their new album and film will be released September 8 and 9, respectively. Be sure to check back for the track listing, album title and more information.
