Desert Daze Festival, once just an annual retreat where mostly LA based hippies could trek out to the desert and see some of their favorite local bands mixed in with some semi-big indie names, has just announced their most exciting lineup yet.
The fifth installment of Desert Daze, which now runs for three days at a new location in Joshua Tree at the Institute of Mentalphysics (Frank Lloyd Wright designed compound) October 14 -16. The organizers, Moon Block Party, have outdone themselves with their headlining acts, including Suicide, who’ll be giving their first West Coast performance in 16 years.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels performing Passover in honor of its tenth anniversary, The Sonics, Deerhunter, and many more playing across three outdoor stages. Believe it or not this is only the first phase of announcing the lineup so that means there will be more to come.
This year’s totally redesigned event will also include an indoor space for alternative programming (speakers, workshops, Q&As, audio/visual performances, and more), vendors, bars, food trucks, and an indoor diner. The limited capacity event will also offer accommodation at on-site cottages designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and son Lloyd Wright (super cool), in addition to good old fashioned RV, car, and tent camping.
Check out the lineup below and stay tuned for more announcements in June.
(UPDATE: 06/28/2016) Phase Two of the Desert Daze lineup has been announced, including Primus, Television and The Coathangers.
(UPDATE: 8/17/2016): Phase Three of the Desert Daze lineup has been announced, with names like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Toro y Moi, Raveonettes, Foxygen, and jennylee. Conspicuously absent from the most current festival flyer is Suicide, following the death of Alan Vega in July. In their place is two series of question marks, insinuating this stacked lineup mind get even better. Also added to the festival is a Special Tribute to Alan Vega.
(UPDATE: 9/21/2016): Desert Daze has announced their mystery performers, rounding out the lineup just a few weeks before it kicks off in October. The new additions include psych-pop group King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, angular post-hardcore group Metz, Al Lover’s Dronal Dissonance and a Toro y Moi DJ set under the Les Sins moniker.
