While touring across the country with the likes of Hop Along, Speedy Ortiz continues to share their upcoming album track by track. Today we get “Emma O” via Apple music (below). The track will be a part of their “Foiled Again EP, set to be the June follow-up to last year’s critically acclaimed Foil Deer.
Are you listening to the song and wondering who Emma O. is? The midtempo track was titled after “the Japanese Buddhist overlord of hell who judges souls” and “spending uncomfortable, quiet hours with someone you still love but shouldn’t” says frontwoman Sadie Dupuis. The singer said she wrote the track upstate New York in a farmhouse. (Source: SPIN).
The band continues with some of our favorite Speedy habits – avoiding obvious melodies, lyrics, and specific messages to create their own brand of dark, vague rock. Dupuis’ songs have always been confessional and have dealt with topics such as addiction, empowerment, and self-denial. See why many are naming Speedy Ortiz as the band to watch and check out their latest below.
The full EP will be available soon – Foiled Again will be released June 3 via Carpark Records.
