Looks like Lady Gaga isn’t the only one with a following of “little monsters.” Band of Horses has just released the new video for the song, “Casual Party,” and it features a variety of monstrosities that don’t seem particularly happy to be there. The track is the first single off their new album, Why Are You OK, which will be available June 10.
Last Wednesday, the band dazzled viewers after their debut performance of the song on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. They were accompanied by a series of “monsters” that Relix Magazine described as, “a unique posse of hype men (/women/things?) that ranged from a human gold pop-pom to a crouching pink alien to what looks like Speed Racer with a major tooth issue.” As it turns out, they were just there for the party, or lack thereof.
“Casual Party” is a solid indie-rock track accompanied by an equally satisfying video. It features the series of monsters lounging around a house party, many of them looking utterly bored. However, we do get some solid dance moves from the human pom-pom and an alien-type creature with a toothbrush. It is a “casual party” indeed, and it’s safe to say that most Band of Horses fans are just fine with that.
It has been nearly four years since Band of Horses’s last record, and the band has teased the release of Why Are You OK for a while now. Back in March, the group teased the album’s upcoming release with scavenger hunt at SXSW in Austin, TX. The group placed polaroids all around the city with the label #YRUOK, a clever play on the album title. While the track list has yet to be released, the band has shared several details regarding the release. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, guitarist Ben Bridwell revealed that the opening track is an epic seven-minute long jam titled “Dull Times: The Moon,” and sets the tone for the rest of the album.
Band of Horses will embark on a North American tour on May 21 to support the new album. Check out tour dates below and be sure to listen to Why Are You OK on June 10.
