In 2013, it was announced that RZA, member of Wu Tang Clan, and Paul Banks, member of Interpol, were planning on making a record together. The project’s name: Banks and Steelz.
It has been announced, after three years of working together, the duo’s first song will debut on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio show on May 19th. The project came together when RZA’s manager asked who he wanted to do an album with. RZA replied, “Well, Paul just has this energy about him. I think if we put our sandwich together it will be great.”
Although, musically, the two come from extremely different backgrounds, Banks being in a rock band, and RZA being a member of a popular hip-hop band, it seems the two have a great connection. “We went to the studio and we started writing songs and they sound very, very different than what I do, but very unique and very peculiar,” RZA said.
Granted, Banks has had his fair share of experience with the hip-hop world though. Banks released mostly instrumental hip-hop album in 2013 titled Everybody On My Dick Like They Supposed to Be, and also has a hip-hop obsessed alter ego that goes by the name DJ Fancypants.
