Sinéad O’Connor Has Been Found In Chicago Suburb After Being Reported Missing

Sinéad O’Connor went out for a bike ride at 6.A.M. last Sunday, and did not return. A call came in to the local Police force of Wilmette, Illinois, suburb of Chicago, expressing concern for her well-being. Police began to look for O’Connor who was dressed in black leather pants, a black parka, and a sweatshirt that said Ireland on the back. Chicago Police reported that the popular Irish singer was found “unharmed.”

Concern for O’Connor’s mental health arose last December in the wake of an alarming Facebook post (since removed), indicating use of self harm as mode of achieving respect, and conveying disbelief that her family even cares. O’Connor ostensibly recovered from that episode, a few days later posting a thank you for “the incredibly lovely people that have been so supportive and have sent such encouraging messages.”

The artist is open about having issues with her mental health. Hollywood Reporter quotes O’Connor saying her Summer 2015 tour was cancelled as result of “exhaustion due to an existing, not resolved, medical situation.” She suffers from PTSD, which was initially misdiagnosed as bipolar disorder, and includes both depression and suicidal tendencies. O’Connor’s relationship with her family has been turbulent, possibly dating back to abuse from her mother (who passed away in 1985), a claim her brother Joseph attested to.

Fans of O’Connor will be relieved to hear she is unharmed.

The artist’s first album, The Lion and The Cobra, was well received. Additionally, her rendition of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U“, became quite popular in the 90’s.
