First Screening Of New Melvins Documentary Announced For July 2016

The first screenings of the new Melvins documentary have been announced for late summer 2016.

The documentary, The Colossus of Destiny: A Melvins Tale, will be showcased in Los Angeles at the Don’t Knock The Rock Film Festival at the end of July, and in Las Vegas at Psycho Las Vegas during the weekend of August 26 – 28. Though these are the only dates so far, it is expected that there will be more screening announcements soon.

The documentary was produced by Bob Hannam and Ryan Sutherby. As Hannam states in a press release, ““I always thought it was strange that people didn’t know more about The Melvins and I felt their story needed to be told.” Thus the two worked together to tell the story of this important, but often overlooked, band.

The documentary will explore the history of the Melvins, as well as feature notable speakers such as Krist Novoselic, Gene Simmons, J. Mascis, and Josh Homme, among others.

Though the first public screening wont take place until late July, there will be a private screening of the movie in Los Angeles in late May.

The Melvins formed in 1984 in Montesano, Washington and though they have had a rotating lineup, members Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover have remained in the band since its inception.

Their catalog is massive as they have over 20 studio albums since their formation in the mid-eighties. In addition, they have been noted as being a seminal part of rock history, despite their limited mass appeal.

They continue to release and play music, and have recently released a cover for The Beatles’ “I Want to Tell You,” and will be releasing an album later this year called Basses Loaded.
