Metronomy Announce New Album Summer 08 For July 2016 Release

Metronomy have just announced a new album titled Summer 08 as well as the release of the lead single “Old School.”

The new album will be the group‘s fifth installment and is due for July 1 release. The album is actually meant to be a sequel to their 2008 release Nights Out, hence the title. Joseph Mount sat down with Annie Mac on her BBC Radio 1 show and discussed the album. In this discussion, as reported by Pitchfork, he told Mac that the name of the album came from the last summer that he had free, which describes how it is meant to be a sequel to their ’08 release. Along with the sit down, Mac also played the lead single on her show. The new single features Mix Master Mike the infamous Beastie Boys disc jockey. The radio appearance can be streamed below.

Soon after the song was aired they went on to release an accompanying video. The video can be seen below.

“Old Skool”‘s video was directed by Dawn Shadforth and stars Sharon Hogan. According to NME, In an interview with Q Magazine last month, Mount explained that the single was “about not recognizing anyone at a party”.

In the same interview with Q, Mount had this to say about the new album.

I just wanted to make an uptempo record. I wanted to try and do another record that captures that fading memory of being a bit younger and going to clubs, but with the confidence I didn’t have then.

The new album will also see Robyn as a featured contributor to the fifth track titled “Hang Me Out To Dry.” With the Mixmaster Mike contributed track coming in at third on the tracklisting. The full tracklist can be seen below along with the album art.

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
