Bonnaroo Superjam Lineup Has Been Announced

Long-running music festival Bonnaroo has just announced the lineup for one of its famous Superjams. The event will be called “Heart, Soul &  Spirit: A Tribute to Tennessee,” and celebrate the 15-year anniversary of the festival.

According to Pitchfork, the Superjam is an annual performance at Bonnaroo in which “a variety of artists come together for a collaborative performance.” Kamasi Washington is set to be musical director for the performance, which will also feature Miguel, Blood Orange’s Devonté Hynes, the Internet, Lizzo, GRiZ, and more. “I’m so excited and honored to lead this year’s SuperJam,” Washington said in the press release. “Such a cool experience to collaborate with all of these amazing artists in celebration of some of the greatest music legends from Tennessee, at one of the coolest festivals in the country—it’s going to be a crazy party!”

In 2014, artists such as Skrillex, Chance the Rapper, Zedd, Robby Krieger of The Doors and more joined each other onstage for a performance that was arguably the highlight of the festival. The Superjam often includes a bit of improvisation, and is intended to bring artists together from a broad range of musical backgrounds. This creates an exciting and unexpected experience for the audience that they are unlikely to find anywhere else.

In addition to “Heart, Soul & Spirit: A Tribute to Tennessee,” the lineup for a second Superjam has been unveiled. The Bluegrass Situation focuses primarily on country music and will be hosted by “The Office” actor Ed Helms and the Watkins Family Hour House Band. Artists such as Lee Ann Womack, Buddy Miller, Amanda Shires, and others will come together for a collaborative country show.

If 2015 is any indication, the 2016 Superjam is sure to be quite the party. Last year’s SuperJam featured appearances from Chance the Rapper, Jon Hamm & Zach Galifianakis, SZA, Bleachers’ Jack Antonoff, Jamie Lidell, DMC, Corey Feldman and many more.
