For all you non-conventional listeners, listen up!
Homeboy Sandman has released his sixth full-length album. Kindness for Weakness has some amazing producers and featured artists that don’t disappoint. One example of an artist that is also on the album is Aesop Rock, who is tour buddies with Sandman as of this month.
This may be his sixth release of a full-length album but it’s his third album released with Stones Throw Records. The album is an open book to Sandman’s insecurities about being in his comfort zone; he not only addresses his insecurities but different stereotypes about rappers.
Sandman shouldn’t be mistaken for a “conscious rapper.” He doesn’t really have a flow that would be considered conventional. However, he has some nice beats behind the words of his music. The production of his beats are what really makes the album decent, but that’s not something fans listen for when downloading or buying an album. “Gumshoe” has no lyrics – just his band playing with some nice drum kicks and guitar sounds. His whole purpose for Kindness for Weakness doesn’t seem to be verbally there, but his intention was probably to show some smooth, mind-blowing beats. It’s a creative way to show how a rapper can establish something different for their fans and future fans ears.
“Cumpleanos Feliz” is just one of the random things Sandman repeats in his songs, but again the beat of the song “Sly Fox” is an uppity beat that destroys whatever he’s saying in the lyrics. When the song is over, fans won’t really remember anything. The song “God” is a track where Sandman talks about his non-conventional belief in God; he describes God by saying He’s not even a “him” but also doesn’t say God is a “her” either.
Despite some imperfections in some of his lyrics, it deserves some replay. Kindness for Weakness is for listeners who want to hear a non-conventional rapper who won’t be mistaken for anyone else in the hip-hip world.
