Experimental hip-hop group Death Grips have released their latest album, Bottomless Pit. It is the follow-up to 2015’s Jenny Death and features the previously released single “Hot Head.”
Death Grips announced last October that they were working on a new album, and fans were immediately desperate for more information. Luckily, the group delivered in a series of previews over the past several months. The album announcement was accompanied by a new track, “Hot Head,” in addition to a video in which the late actress Karen Black reads dialogue written by Zach Hill. Hill elaborates in the video, stating that he had written a part for her in a film he was developing, and she agreed to read the dialogue on camera. The video was filmed shortly before her death from cancer in 2013.
Last month, the band also released the complete set of lyrics to the new album, which was unusual but not exactly unexpected. Death Grips has always delivered famously eclectic material. Earlier this year, the band released “Interview 2016,” brief band “interview” with actor/TV host Matthew Hoffman dubbed over with instrumental music, which was subsequently released as standalone material.
Death Grips is one of the most unique artists around, and that is part of their appeal. After their “break-up” and subsequent tour back in 2014, they are back and better than ever. The experimental hip hop and punk rock trio’s Bottomless Pit is sure to be a glorious record that once again defies limits and expectations.
