Levitation Festival Cancelled Due To Hazardous Weather Concerns

Those who have been waiting all year in anticipation for Austin, TX’s Levitation Festival were met with incredibly disappointing news on Thursday evening. According to Billboard, due to concerns of hazardous and potentially dangerous weather conditions over the weekend, festival organizers have made the decision to cancel the event. Levitation Festival, formerly known as Austin Psych Festival, was scheduled to take place from April 29 to May 1 with headliners like Brian Wilson (who was scheduled to perform Pet Sounds), Flying Lotus and Animal Collective.

A situation that was completely out of the event organizer’s hands, The Reverberation Appreciation Society and Levitation staff released note that stated their heartbreak over the cancellation.

The festival faced similar weather concerns last year (when the event still went by the name Austin Psych Fest), but were able to get through the weekend without incident. The festival takes place at Carson Creek Ranch, not far from the banks of the Colorado River on the outskirts of Austin. Because of high wind, large-size hail and even tornado warnings, the planners decided to make the prudent decision and halt the festivities. The final decision was made at 5:00 PM to cancel the festival.

Not all hope for a weekend filled with music is lost for those that have traveled from across the state or country to visit Austin for Levitation Festival. Festival organizers are working with venues in the club-dense Downtown Austin, allowing fans the opportunity to catch the bands they traveled to see in a live setting.
