LA songstress Morgan Kibby, also known as White Sea, has just released a new song called “Bloodline.” It is the second track that White Sea has shared from her interactive art project Postcards From Nowhere, which allows her to share postcards, demos, polaroids, correspondence, and more directly with fans without boundaries.
“Bloodline” is a steady track that highlights Kibby’s strong voice, rhythm and writing skills. The lyrics are straightforward, as she repeatedly states, “I am a monster/It’s in my bloodline/It’s a sensation that I can’t fight.” The track is a mix of synth, 80s pop and electro that is nice enough to listen to, but ultimately forgettable. It is eerily similar to the first single released off of Postcards from Nowhere, titled “Arcadia.” Both songs contain the same pleasant yet generic tune, with “Arcadia” even containing the lyric “They say you’re a monster, from a place of the wrong.” At the same time, one must consider the theory that either song is from a unique viewpoint. “Bloodline” stresses the sense of feeling like a monster, while “Arcadia” presents a counterargument. It is a complex theory that could definitely be argued, but Kibby has always allowed fans to dig deep into her music.
Morgan Kibby released her critically acclaimed debut full-length In Cold Blood in 2014. The highly-successful album earned her tours supporting Phantogram and The Naked and Famous, along with spots on music festivals like SXSW, Sasquatch, and Lollapalooza. In addition to White Sea, she is also the former songwriter and keyboardist for M83 and former lead vocalist for The Romanovs. However, she briefly returned to M83 in 2011 to contribute to their Grammy-nominated sixth album, Hurry Up We’re Dreaming. Kibby has also remixed tracks for range of artists including: Lord Huron, The Naked and Famous, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, Imagine Dragons, School of Seven Bells, Lorde, Active Child, Manchester Orchestra, Kevin Devine, New Politics and more.
