Aesop Rock has just shared “Lazy Eye,” new song from his forthcoming album The Impossible Kid, which will come out April 29th on Rhymesayers Records.
The track, showcases classic Aesop Rock flow on top of a really spacey, brooding beat. The video that he has released alongside it features Rock in a store full of random objects rapping the track along with his longtime collaborator and friend DJ Zone.
He has been gearing towards the release of Impossible Kid for months now, having previously released videos for the album singles “Rings”and “Blood Sandwich”.
The Impossible Kid is Aesop Rock’s seventh studio record and his first in nearly four years. After a long period of silence following his latest release, Rock has been very active lately, working on a four part series with Funny Or Die to talk about his inspirations and the process of making the album.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Rock talked about how he got back into a creative place making the album:
“Yeah. It was basically just a year renting this place. That was where, I guess, a lot of the initial ideas were put down. It’s the part of the record that I just sort of romanticized because it does have the aspect of solitude and just kind of getting out and moving, and just kind of parsing through your thoughts. Really it was just I just wanted to work. I wasn’t being productive where I was [in San Francisco], so I was able to go to this place and just make a ton of beats and start a bunch of stuff. I didn’t create a whole record there or anything, but I was able to get up every day and make my life completely about that.”
Aesop Rock will be heading out on a tour with Rob Sonic, and supported by Homebody Sandman next month. Tickets can be found here and full dates below:
