English indie rock group, Foals, has just released the video for their new single “Rain.”
“Rain” was released earlier this year as a preview for their Record Store Day release. The 7″ the band plans on releasing includes the aforementioned song and a cover of “Daffodils,” the song by Mark Ronson and Kevin Parker.
The song is brooding and minimal, but immensely graceful and beautiful. It is slower and more intimate than their previous two albums, What Went Down and Holy Fire. It’s more reminiscent of their 2010 album, Total Life Forever, but infused with an electric springtime vibe.
Though the song was released last month, the accompanying video has just been released. Similar to the song, the video is raw and personal. The rendition of “Rain” on the music video is live rather than a studio version and utterly captivating.
The video focuses on the singer, Yannis Philippakis, as he croons through the song. Philippakis stands beside a wall as moving images are projected over him. His eyes remained closed through the song, and leads the song into a burst of emotion and energy.
Foals was formed in 2005 in Oxford, England and includes members Yannis Philippakis, Jack Bevan, Jimmy Smith, Walter Gervers, and Edwin Congreave. Thus far, the band has released four studio albums. Since their debut album in 2008, the band’s sound has evolved from brash indie rock to a softer indie rock sound, but the songs consistently come out beautiful.
Equally, the band has increasingly found popularity and critical success over the years. In recent years, the band have earned various awards for their albums and production work.
This year, the band will be touring and making stops at several festivals around the world, including Rock En Seine in France.
