The Flaming Lips have released a video for David Bowies “Space Oddity”.
Ever since the David Bowie tribute show a couple of weeks ago, everyone can’t stop talking about the Flaming Lips showcase of “Life On Mars”.
“Space Oddity” is no different story. It starts out as a cover seemingly identical to the original until a synth cuts in at the part that would normally go “Lift Off”.
This video seems to be the ideal full blown tribute to Bowie, and a Eulogy to his life and his style in the music scene that made such an impact on various generations. The video is filled with flashy and unique Bowie fashion from lasers, spacesuits, to nuns and churches filled with balloons.
An article in Spin magazine said: “Never mind the troubling fact that one of the nuns inextricably undresses in what looks like a failed Terry Richardson photoshoot: if there were ever a Flaming Lips funeral for Bowie, this would be it, and it’s actually kind of touching.”
The band have been well known for their unique, crowd satisfying shows. Lead singer Wayne Coin has on many occasions rolled around in a giant clear plastic blow-up ball over thousands of hands in the audience. There are usually a lot of lights involved, confetti, and disco balls turning at the same time. The Flaming Lips have also been known to play entire albums in numerical order as the set for the show.
Most recently, the band have re-released their 1994 album: Clouds Taste Metallic, last November, with the new name: Heady Nuggs 20 Years After Clouds Taste Metallic. The album can be found as a three disc CD or a seven-LP with lots of new bonuses.
