Coachella First Day Opening Delayed Because Of Wind Damage, Sets Cancelled

Those that arrived bright and early at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday morning to get in as soon as possible were met with a massive disappointment: Due to the extremely powerful, high-speed winds that ripped throughout the entire Southland on Thursday night, the festival’s gate opening was delayed by over an hour. The gates were opened right around noon, over an hour past the planned time of 11 AM. With the delays in opening the gates, it caused the lines to back up as more and more attendees arrived without the relief of moving lines.

Masha’s 11 AM set at the Yuma tent was cancelled, and DJ EZ will go on at 2PM as planned. At the Sahara tent, Synergy’s 11:30 AM set was pushed back, though no sets appear to be cancelled at that stage. All other stages were scheduled to begin at 12 PM and do not appear to have delayed or cancelled sets. Unrelated to the weather-delayed opening, Sasha, Skepta and Lush have cancelled sets at Coachella.

The heavy desert winds that Southern California is notorious for powered through the valleys and canyons of the region, particularly effecting the valleys of the Inland Empire where Coachella is hosted in Indio, CA. Sets were damaged, forcing the festival to push back the opening of the gates. Several sets were impacted and a few even cancelled. Stay tuned for all of the details.
