Los Angeles Party Music
Antwon is a Los Angeles based rapper who has been involved in the rap game for over a decade. He recently released a new EP on April 1st called Double Ecstasy.
Since signing with Anticon Records, he has been able to shine with the beats he raps over. An example of that is in his first song on the EP, “Luv.” In the song, it begins with a hardcore beat and drum-like sounds. What makes this song unique is what he decided what would be explicit. He bleeps out the word “love” as if it is the worst thing a person can say in a song. It’s pretty unique for an artist to think of the word love as such a strong word. It’s like he thought of it being a dirty word that no one should hear. The song is a odd combination of trying to have fun in a strip club and then him realizing at the same time noticing the lack of love that happens in a strip club.
The overall feel for Double Ecstasy is that of a storyline of a drug-filled party that takes place in the city of Los Angeles. Listening to his song “Dri-Fit” is a lot like listening to a modern day Biggie Smalls.
If it weren’t for Antwon’s strong delivery in his lyrics, it would just be a regular EP that would eventually be forgotten about. However, he successfully paints a picture of what the party life is in Los Angeles. It’s almost as if you are in the room with him. The whole sex and drugs theme might get a bit repetitive, but each song is a mirror image of the life that Antwon lives.
